FIBA Olympic Qualifiers to Determine Final Three Olympic Berths
Turin, Manila, and Belgrade to Host Qualifying Tournaments
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced the locations for the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs), with Turin (Italy), Manila (Philippines), and Belgrade (Serbia) set to host the events from July 4-10.
Three Tournaments, Three Olympic Berths
The OQTs will provide the final three opportunities for men's basketball teams to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The OQTs will be played in a round-robin format, with each tournament featuring six teams.
The top two finishers from each tournament will advance to Rio, joining the 12 teams that have already qualified through continental qualifying tournaments.
Tough Competition Expected
The OQTs are expected to feature some of the top basketball teams in the world, including Italy, Philippines, Serbia, Turkey, France, Greece, Canada, Mexico, Senegal, Angola, New Zealand, and Venezuela.
With only three Olympic berths available, the competition is sure to be fierce, and the teams that do qualify for Rio will have earned their place among the world's elite.
Conclusion
The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will provide a thrilling conclusion to the Olympic basketball qualification process. The teams that qualify for Rio will have proven themselves as some of the best in the world, and they will be ready to compete for a gold medal in August.
