Become a United States Air Force Pilot

The United States Air Force is one of the most prestigious and respected air forces in the world. If you have always dreamed of flying, becoming an Air Force pilot could be the perfect career for you. Here are the steps, skills, and requirements you need to know to get started.

Steps to Become an Air Force Pilot

1. Qualify for Officer Training School (OTS). To become an Air Force pilot, you must first qualify for OTS. This includes meeting the following requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 33
  • Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT)
  • Meet the physical and medical requirements

2. Complete OTS. OTS is a 12-week program that will teach you the basics of military life and leadership. You will also receive training in basic aviation skills.

3. Attend Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT). UPT is a year-long program that will teach you how to fly a specific type of aircraft. You will also receive training in advanced aviation skills.

4. Receive your wings. Once you have completed UPT, you will receive your wings and be assigned to an operational squadron.
